Chto delat

is a Russian group of artists, writers and philosophers merging art practice with social activism and political theory.

They work mainly in installations, video art and public actions. Concentrated on both social change, politics, economics and cultural agendas, they keenly contribute to various magazines and publish their own newspaper. Chto delat’s work as an artist collective has been shown widely throughout Europe (solo shows: Study, study and act again, Moderna Galerija, Ljubljana; The Urgent Need to Struggle, Institute of Contemporary Art, London). They took part in the major group exhibition Ostalgia at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York (2011). Chto delat’s films and installations were featured at the 17th Sydney biennial (2010) and the 11th Istanbul biennial (2009).

Auditorium Moscow will screen Chto delat’s film Museum Songspiel (2011), a continuation of the group’s neo-Brechtian blank verse operas that now focuses on the museum as a public space, inevitably given over to the strategy of including and neutralizing political art. A new issue of the newspaper Chto delat will be distributed at the exhibition.
